The Automatic Ice Sweeper turns on when the (Water Temperature) reaches "approximately" 39-41 degrees and turns off at 42 degrees (Automatically). This stays "ahead" of the drop in water temperature to prevent the water from freezing!  It is a thermal sensing valve that is constantly in contact with the water and releases enough water to prevent surface ice, as the water temperature dictates.
